Vitalian I, Letter 11

Extract:

Igitur quia postulasti a nobis quatenus reverendissima Beneventanensis Ecclesia, Deo favente, priviligiis reverendissimae sedis apostolicae decoraretur.

‘Therefore, because you asked it of us, with God’s favour, the most revered church of Benevento will be adorned with the privileges of the most revered apostolic see’

Vitalian then lists the churches which will receive the privileges. The only foundation dedicated to a saint is the church of St Michael on the Gargano.
