Extract from a letter relating to a boundary dispute between the two monasteries:
Quia ergo, indicante Caesario abbate monasterii sancti Petri, quod in loco qui Baias dicitur constitutum est, comperimus inter eum et Iohannem abbatem monasterii sanctae Luciae in Syracusana ciuitate constitutum grauem
esse exortam de quibusdam finibus quaestionem.
‘Thus, from the indication of Caesarius, abbot of the monastery of Saint Peter, established in a place called Baiae, we have found out that a serious question has arisen about certain boundaries, between him and John, abbot of the monastery of Saint Lucia, established in the city of Syracuse.’
