VIII Kl. Ian.
'25 December. The feast of Saint Anastasia, who, in the time of Diocletian, first patiently suffered terrible and harsh confinement by her husband Publius, during which she was nevertheless much consoled and strengthened by Chrysogonus, a confessor of Christ. Next she wasted away in likewise extremely oppressive and lasting confinement by the prefect of Illyricum: during which she was refreshed for two months with heavenly foods through Saint Theodata, who had already suffered martyrdom. Next, placed on a ship with two-hundred men and seven-hundred women, so that they would be submerged in the sea, she was brought to the Isle of Palms where, stretched out and tied by her hands and feet to immovable stays, there was also kindled around her middle a fire, in which she accomplished martyrdom; and all who had come with her achieved martyrdom together through various forms of killing.'
Text: Quentin 1908, 60. Translation: Lifshitz 2000, 196, lightly modified.
