Summary:
Gregory narrates how Andrew, the bishop of Funda, lived with a holy woman who served as his housekeeper. Although he believed himself strong, he was tempted to lust after her. The cause of this temptation was revealed to a travelling Jewish man. The traveller entered the temple of Apollo, protecting himself with a sign of the cross, and observed as evil spirits gathered and discussed their various nefarious acts – one of which was the temptation of Andrew. The spirits could not harm the traveller because he had protected himself with the sign of the cross, and, the following day, he went and told the bishop all he had seen. Finally, Bishop Andrew confessed, removed all women from his house and turned the temple of Apollo into a chapel dedicated to Andrew, the Apostle. He was never again tempted by lustful thoughts.
