E04076: Coptic Letter from the monastery of Apa Apollo at Bawit (Middle Egypt), concerning a matter involving an unnamed saint (S00518); datable to the 8th century.

P.Mon. Apollo 56:

This very fragmentary letter seems to have been sent from the monastery of Apa Apollo to the hands of a deputy (topoteretes). The reason for this message remains obscure.
Line 5 reads as follows:

ⲛⲡⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ [ⲁⲩⲡⲱ]ⲧ ⲉⲣⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ϣⲁⲛⲡⲣⲟⲥⲕⲩⲛ[ⲉⲓ ⲙⲙⲟϥ?]

'… for the saint. [They hurried?] to us, since we regularly worship [him?] …'
