The document is a contract between a priest of a topos of Apa John in the desert and a camel herd concerning the conditions under which the latter is to tend to the animals.

The scribe of the document who also acts as one of the witnesses to this contract is a priest of a topos of Mark the Evangelist, located on the mountain of Jeme.

The ostracon was found at the monastery of Epiphanios at Thebes and is housed at the Museum in Cairo, Inv. 44674.69. It has been dated on palaeographical grounds.
