Summary:
The emperor Julian issued an edict against the Christians. The order to persecute all Christians was accepted by the ruler of Balbak/Baalbek, which is the city of the sun. Local pagans told the ruler that there was a certain Christian who neglected the order, and instead of venerating their idols, ridiculed them. The man, whose name was Loukianos, was brought to the ruler, where he engaged in a debate with the ruler.
Despite all the subsequent torture inflicted upon him, Loukianos was fortified in faith by an angel and refused to accept paganism. After continuous tortures he was hung on a tree outside the city and cut into pieces. After this, a certain traveller passed by Loukianos's body. Overtaken by madness the traveller removed Loukianos's intestines and started devouring them. For this action he was duly punished by God: first he lost his sight and then died.

'And when the holy one completed his prayer, the ungodly and evil ones hanged the holy one and his body, in a somewhat remote place from the population. And some cut his legs with … and others his hands with … and the cut off pieces they threw on the ground. '10. And then a certain camel herder came across the ungodly ones who were cutting up the martyr. And when he saw this, he became similar in folly and madness to the maddened camels whom he was herding. He unsheathed the sword and started cutting up the lamb of God. And then in rage, he began to remove the intestines of the blameless one with his hands and devoured them with his teeth. But he immediately received punishment similar to his own deeds, for his eyes fell off and the same happened to his camels, and they fell on the ground as if cut out by swords, and thus were left blind. And when the ungodly ones saw this, they were astonished by the wonder that happened to the camel herder. Then one of them tied the camel herder and his camels together, and took them to the city. And when they reached the gates of the city, the camel herder fell on the ground, and whoever saw him praised God and his martyr.'

'11. Then through God’s order, a raven fetched a part of the martyr’s body, and took it safely to the city of Sidon, which is located on the seacoast, and dropped it at a faithful woman’s doorstep. And when the woman saw the holy relic of the martyr, and as she was a Christian too, she was enlightened by God and trusted Him and said: “This is a relic of a saint who was martyred for Christ”. Then she washed it with wine and sprinkled it with incense and wrapped in clean linen and buried it in her house. The next night the holy martyr of Christ appeared to her and said: “I am Loukios, who greatly suffered for Christ’s faith in the city of Baalbek, but you have believed and as [you are] a believer in Christ, let that part of my body be buried in your [house].” And she accepted and believed in the vision, for she was a believer and god-fearing. And she buried the relic of the saint in her house with great honours and good service, and to no one did she reveal this, for in those days the city was serving the idols. And after a short while, the persecutions of the Christians somewhat subsided, and the holy bishop who was then in Sidon was informed of the relic of the saint, and he was fortified by God who always glorifies his saints, and he built a beautiful church for God’s glory and in praise of the martyr. And he placed there the holy relic, and through it many afflictions were cured and evil spirits were cast away until our days. This is the story of one relic of the holy martyr. But now I shall return to the first word, and will tell you the story of other relics.'

'When they cut up the body of the great martyr of Christ, a certain faithful man walked past on the road, and when he approached that place where the body parts of the saint were cut, he dismounted from the donkey. When he saw what had happened, in his great faith which he had towards the servants of Christ, he took one piece of the saint’s body and went to his village, called Sampsyas, which is twelve miles from Emesa. This too was willed by God, for the dwellers of that place were lovers of Christ and had divine zeal, and they promptly built a church to glorify God and praise the holy martyr. As if innumerable treasure, they buried the holy relics with glory and praise. And the fame of that place spread across the dwellers of that country, and many miracles and healings were performed by the saint on that spot until our days.'
